FedEx Corp. said it would raise shipping rates for its Ground and Home Delivery units by a net average of 4.9%, effective Jan. 3.

Rates will actually increase an average of 5.9%, but FedEx will also adjust the threshold at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing it by one percentage point, the carrier said Friday in a statement.

FedEx announced in September that it would increase rates in its Freight and National LTL units 6.9%, and its Express unit by 3.9%, on average.

Rate change information is available from the carrier at www.fedex.com/us/2011rates.

FedEx Corp. is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
