FedEx Freight announced that a majority of drivers at its Chicago Heights, Illinois, terminal rejected representation by the Teamsters union in the most recent election at the largest less-than-truckload carrier.

A statement provided to Transport Topics didn’t disclose the count in the May 8 election. The company that is a unit of FedEx Corp., which ranks No. 2 on TT’s Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, now has won six contested elections while the union has prevailed in four votes.

Election petitions filed by the Teamsters also were withdrawn at multiple other FedEx Freight terminals, which the company counts as a defeat of the union.

“FedEx Freight drivers overall continue to reject the union and demonstrate their strong preference for a direct relationship with the company,” said the statement from the Memphis, Tennessee-based company.

FedEx also said that there are no more election petitions that have been filed by the union against the LTL operator. The Teamsters began their organizing effort nearly a year ago at FedEx.

No. 4 Con-way Inc., the third-largest LTL carrier, also has won a majority of elections in contests with the union.
