FedEx Founder Fred Smith to be Awarded University of Tennessee Honorary Degree

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — FedEx Corp. founder and Chairman Fred Smith will receive one of three honorary degrees the University of Tennessee will award at commencement ceremonies next month in Knoxville.

Smith will be the commencement speaker May 13 for UT's Haslam College of Business, where he will be awarded his latest honorary degree. He earned a bachelor's in economics from Yale University in 1966.

The business school's commencement is one of 11 separate spring graduation ceremonies to be conducted by UT's colleges and graduate school May 12-14, when nearly 3,500 undergraduates and 1,386 graduate and professional students will be awarded degrees.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
