Ex-Transportation Secretary to Help Launch Net Venture

Transportation.com has tapped a former cabinet official and presidential adviser as its chairman of the board to help establish the fledgling Internet business on firm ground.

Samuel K. Skinner
Samuel K. Skinner served as former secretary of transportation at the outset of the Bush administration, and later was the president’s chief of staff. He will put his governmental and industry expertise to use in helping the startup Web-based company map out a business strategy.

In addition, Skinner will be involved in publicizing Transportation.com in the shipping and carrier communities to attract customers. His duties will also include recruiting employees.

Transportation.com, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., plans to offer carrier management for shippers, load-matching, load-tendering, load-building and dispatching over the Internet. Its other services will include auctions and third-party logistics.
