Ergonomics Hearings In Second Round

WASHINGTON — Debate over the federal government’s proposal to impose ergonomics regulations on industry grew warmer, as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration held the second round of public hearings last week.

The federal agency is listening to reaction to its massive regulation designed to reduce repetitive stress, heavy lifting and other movement-related injuries in the workplace.

The agency plans nine weeks of hearing. Trucking is scheduled to have a say the week of April 7.

Last week, a spokesman for the American Road and Transportation Builders Association said the draft regulations are not the way to further worker safety.
