Engine Makers Say Service May Make Difference to 2007 Buyers

OUISVILLE, Ky. — With many fleets undecided about which engine brands to buy in 2007 when emission standards toughen, some manufacturers are focusing on improving customer service to coincide with the launch of those new engines.

Jim McReynolds, Caterpillar Inc.’s general manager of power systems North America, said “less than 50%” of the fleets it recently surveyed had decided on which brand of engines to choose in 2007.

The level of “dealer support after the sale” will be a key factor in which engine fleets specify for their 2007 trucks, McReynolds said.
