Electronic Recorder Rule Near as White House Gives Approval

The White House late last month gave its approval for a proposal that could force truckers to use electronic recorders to monitor their hours of service, clearing the way for the rule to be published after more than two years of discussion.The proposed rule “is under final review, and we anticipate it to be published by the middle of January,” Ian Grossman, spokesman for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, told Transport Topics.“This is a huge issue for the industry,” said Dave Osiecki, vice president of safety, security and operations for American Trucking Associations.For the full story, see the Jan. 8 print edition of Transport Topics.
