Eaton to Provide Transmissions to Indian Truck Maker

Truck parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. said it has signed an agreement with India’s Tata Motors, that country’s largest automotive manufacturer, to provide heavy-duty truck transmissions through 2014.

Eaton will supply the transmissions to Tata for use on its World Truck program in India and for the company’s global markets.

Initial transmission production will take place at Eaton plants in Tczew, Poland, and Wuxi, China, with production moving to Pune, India, as volumes increase, Eaton said.

“This is a very important achievement for Eaton in meeting our significant growth goals for India and the Asia-Pacific region in general,” said James Sweetnam, president of Eaton’s truck group.

“Our relationship with Tata is an excellent indicator of our commitment to India’s commercial vehicle market and its long-term prospects for growth,” he said in a statement.
