ogistics and delivery firm Dynamex Inc. reported its third-quarter net income rose 18% to $3.2 million or 29 cents a share, from $2.7 million or 23 cents a year earlier.

Sales for the fiscal quarter ended April 30 rose 6.3% to $87 million, the company said late Wednesday. Operating income rose 7.1% to $5.3 million.

The core growth rate, which excludes fuel surcharges and foreign exchange rates, was below its target range of 5% to 7% for the quarter, Dynamex said. It said it expects its core growth rate to be in the “mid-single digit range” for the fourth quarter.

Full-year earnings for fiscal 2006 will be between $1.08 and $1.13 per share, the company said.

“Significant new business is planned to be phased in over the next two fiscal quarters and we expect to be within our growth rate target raged of 8% to 12% by the second quarter of FY 2007,” Dynamex said in a statement.

Dynamex, which provides same-day delivery services in the U.S. and Canada, is ranked No. 71 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
