Durables Orders Fall in October

Durable goods orders dropped 3.3% in October, the largest decrease since January 2009, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Excluding transportation, orders decreased 2.7%.

Orders for non-military goods excluding aircraft orders fell 4.5%, Commerce said.

Total orders for durable goods were projected by analysts to rise 0.1%, Bloomberg reported.

Durable goods include large items such as refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
