Durables Goods Orders Rise in December

.S. orders for durable goods rose 1.3% in December, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

Orders of goods made to last at least three years rose to $228 billion and the December rise followed a 5.4% jump in November, Commerce said.

The rise was greater than analysts’ forecasts of a 1% increase, Bloomberg reported. For the year, durable goods orders rose 8.2%, following 2004’s 10% gain.



Transportation equipment orders rose 1.9% following a 16.5% jump in November.
