The Department of Transportation’s freight transportation services index for April rose slightly from a year ago, but was unchanged from March, DOT said Wednesday.

The April freight index level was a reading of 109.4, up from 109.3 a year ago, DOT said. The index in March had seen the biggest monthly decline in a year and a half.

Since an increase in January that was the largest in two years, the freight index has failed to advance for three consecutive months.

The TSI is a seasonally adjusted monthly index measuring the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline and local transit.
