DOT Transportation Index Slips in September

The Department of Transportation’s freight transportation services index for September fell 1.6% compared with a year ago, DOT said Wednesday.

The freight TSI declined 0.7% in September from 108.9 in August that marked the index’s drop in six months, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said in its monthly report.

For the year through September, the freight TSI was down 0.7%. A month ago, the index turned positive year-to-date, though by a margin of less than 0.1%.

TSI is a seasonally adjusted monthly index measuring the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline and local transit.
