DOT Proposes Texting Ban Rule

The Department of Transportation released a proposed rule Wednesday that would ban texting by interstate commercial truck and bus drivers.

The rule regarding distracted driving would make permanent an interim ban DOT announced in January, DOT said. It does not affect operation of navigation devices or other in-cab tasks.

Members of the public have 30 days to comment on the proposed rule, DOT said in a statement.
