rude oil supplies fell but distillate inventories, which include diesel and heating oil, rose last week, the Department of Energy reported Thursday.

Distillate supplies jumped 2.1 million barrels in the week ended Dec. 30 DOE said. That was higher than analysts’ predictions of a 300,000-barrel increase, Bloomberg reported.

Crude oil supplies fell 1 million barrels, in line with expectations, Bloomberg reported.

Gasoline inventories rose 1.4 million barrels, DOE said in its weekly report, which was issued Thursday instead of Wednesday because of the New Year's holiday.

Analysts told CNBC the increases in supplies were in part due to mostly mild temperatures in the Northeast.
