The average U.S. retail diesel price rose 3 cents to end the year at $3.903 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Dec. 30.

The increase followed a 0.2-cent uptick in the previous week and left diesel 1.5 cents below the same week a year earlier.

Prices rose throughout the country, with the largest increase of 4.7 cents reported in the DOE’s West Coast region excluding California.

Meanwhile, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline climbed 6 cents to $3.331, DOE said.

Gasoline’s increase lifted the national average 3.3 cents higher than the same week last year.
