DHL Signs Telecom Agreement with AT&T

Deutsche Post DHL has signed a five-year telecommunications agreement with AT&T, in which AT&T will provide telecommunications to Deutsche Post DHL units throughout the United States.

The contract covers DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain, Global Forwarding and Global Business Services units, the company said in a statement Wednesday. Service will start in late 2009.

DP DHL said that the AT&T contract is part of a larger initiative to cut telecommunications costs and improve service in the company’s U.S. and Europe units. DP DHL expects to save more than 170 million euros ($241 million) in the next five years through the initiative.

DHL USA is ranked No. 3 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
