ackage carrier DHL said Wednesday it will begin construction in February of a $181 million service center in New York City.

The company said the facility will be its largest U.S. service center. It will consolidate two existing service center locations into a new 161,000-square foot facility to serve pickup, delivery and sorting operations in New York.

“This facility will serve as our gateway to the New York City market” said Mark Munoz, DHL's senior area vice president of operations.

DHL said the center will sort domestic and international parcels as well as palletized and container freight, and will employ more than 400 workers when it becomes fully operational in May.

DHL Americas is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
