DEF Average Holds at $2.79 a Gallon

U.S. retail pump prices for diesel exhaust fluid remained steady in February at $2.79 a gallon, the third straight month they have held at that level, according to the latest DEF Tracker released this week.

Canadian prices also remained stable, at 80 Canadian cents per liter. A publication of Integer Research Ltd., DEF Tracker follows pricing for the urea/water mixture in the United States and Canada.

DEF is a necessary additive for diesel engines that have selective catalytic reduction systems. Since January 2010, SCR has been the major technology built into new trucks to help limit nitrogen oxides emissions.
