December Durable Goods Orders Jump 5.2%

Durable goods orders jumped 5.2% in December, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

The upturn, which was the biggest since July, followed a revised 0.5% gain in November, Commerce said.

Excluding transportation orders, bookings rose 2.6%.

Economists forecast orders to rise 1.6%, and 0.1% excluding transport orders, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
