DAT Report Shows Loads Rise 32% in August

The latest DAT report of spot freight market activity showed a 32% increase in freight volume in August from last year.

Van load availability rose 36%, refrigerated freight increased 31% and flatbed volume jumped 56%, according to the DAT North American Freight Index.

The Sept. 16 report showed a rise in spot market loads in August, with flatbed and van rates rising 14% and reefer rates increasing 5.7%.

Rates were little changed compared with July, rising 0.4%. Van freight volume rose 0.2% as reefer freight increased 6.2%, according to DAT.



Spot market rates for the three equipment categories dropped from midsummer highs as van rates fell 1.9% percent, reefer rates declined 2.2% and flatbed rates dipped 0.5%, month over month.
