Dana, Eaton Expand Joint Offerings

NEW ORLEANS — Dana Corp. and Eaton Corp. have expanded their marketing agreement established earlier this year to include a broader range of medium- and heavy-duty Roadranger System products, the two companies announced.

The components include Eaton Fuller clutches and transmissions; Dana Spicer driveshafts; steer, drive and trailer axles; brakes and wheel ends; and Eaton antilock brake systems.

The two companies also announced that Eaton will have marketing responsibility for all of the components and systems. “The expansion of this agreement answers our customers’ demands to give them a single source, a single company to call,” said Ken Davis, North America marketing manager for Eaton.

Following its acquisition earlier this year of Eaton Corp.’s Axle & Brake Division, the Spicer Heavy Axle and Brake Division of Dana Corp. reduced the number of its axle products.

The new lineup of Spicer Heavy Axle & Brake products includes:

  • Single drive axles for city delivery and bus or coach applications, rated from 13,500 to 22,000 pounds gross axle weight rating.

  • Single drive axles for line haul and refuse, rated from 23,000 to 30,000 pounds. GAWR.

teer axles rated from 6,000 to 24,000 pounds GAWR.

  • Tandem drive axles for line haul and construction rated from 34,000 to 45,000 pounds GAWR.

  • Tandem drive axles for heavy hauling, logging, mining, construction and oil field, rated from 46,000 to 65,000 pounds GAWR.

In addition, Dana announced other changes to two of its axle lines.

The Dana Spicer DS404 tandem axle family — rated at 40,000 pounds GAWR — is 15 pounds lighter than previous models, thanks to a new output cover and redesigned power divider.

The power divider unit features improved lubrication flow, which also enhanced sealing and improved performance in most severe applications, according to the company.

The axle also includes a new ratio of 2.93 for line-haul operations.

Ratings for the Dana Spicer 23105S single-drive axle have been increased to 120,000 pounds from 105,000 pounds for on-highway applications.
