Daimler AG said Tuesday it sees continued truck market growth in the next two years, buoyed by a stronger North American market.

“Medium and heavy-duty segments are developing positively in [North America] in particular,” Daimler said, adding that it expects the truck market in the region to have grown by 35% by the end of the year.

Its worldwide truck plants will remain in full production in the first quarter as demand in North America pushed new orders to a four-year high, the company added.

The truck maker said its orders for the first 11 months of the year were up 26% from a year ago and the most since 2007.

Sales through November rose 15%, to 371,400 trucks, Germany-based Daimler said in a report on its website.

In view of the anticipated expansion of global truck markets, Daimler Trucks said it expects to be able to increase annual sales to more than 500,000 units by 2013.

Daimler makes Freightliner and Western Star trucks in North America.
