he Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance said late Tuesday that federal, state and local law enforcement officers will cooperate to conduct vehicle inspections across North America as part of Roadcheck 2006, starting June 6.

As part of the three-day effort, officers will conduct 37-step North American Standard inspections on vehicles and provide educational materials on various aspects of commercial vehicle, driver and hazardous materials safety, CVSA said.

Roadcheck 2006 will focus on enforcement and education of safety belt use among commercial drivers. Statistics from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration indicate an increase in safety belt violations among commercial drivers to 1,150 in 2005 from 755 in 2004, the alliance said.

CVSA is a not for profit association of local, state, provincial and federal officials responsible for the administration and enforcement of truck and safety laws in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
