Truckers tooling down the highway should expect to see an extra flourish of activity by roadside inspectors starting June 6, as the annual North American safety blitz gets under way.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is coordinating International Road Check 2000, and for 72 hours, through June 8, the emphasis will be on the condition of trucks and their drivers throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The event, in its 12th year, brings increased inspection activity and helps CVSA focus attention on truck, bus and driver safety programs aimed at reducing the number of commercial vehicle crashes.
CVSA members, who are primarily trucking safety inspectors at the state and provincial levels, perform about 2 million commercial vehicle roadside inspections a year. That number is expected to grow as traffic increases, according to the organization.
