CVSA Invites Eclectic Mix to Discuss Trucking Safety

NEW ORLEANS — Talk about a gathering of strange bedfellows.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, which represents truck safety inspectors in North American, plans to bring a mixture of representatives from the public and private sectors together to talk about their concerns and hopes for coming to some mutual understandings about safety issues.

CVSA, an organization of law enforcement officers whose non-voting members include trucking companies and trade associations, has made arrangements to hold a half-day, focus-group session with colleagues as well as public advocacy groups. The meeting is scheduled for September during CVSA’s annual conference in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“The purpose is to get all of us in the same room to recognize the different messages that are going out and to see if there is a way we can collectively agree on at least a single issue,” said Lisa Irwin, the alliance’s president and a lieutenant with the Michigan State Police.
