Cummins Selling Exhaust Business

Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. said it is selling its exhaust business to Global Tube, a unit of a private equity firm. Terms were not disclosed.

The sale to the unit of Chicago-based Wind Point Partners affects Cummins’ acoustic exhaust business in four Wisconsin locations, as well as operations in India and Australia.

The operations are part of Cummins’ emission solutions business, which makes aftertreatment systems, diesel particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction systems to meet heavy-duty diesel emissions regulations.

Cummins said the sale will allow it to place greater emphasis and resources on manufacturing products that are a “critical part of its growth strategy.”

Stricter global emission standards will provide it with “significant growth opportunities in the development and deployment of aftertreatment technology,” Cummins said.

Global Tube CEO Thomas Gosnell, a former executive with ArvinMeritor Inc. and Rockwell Automotive and 30-year trucking industry veteran, said the new business will revive the name Nelson Products, a familiar brand in the exhaust business that will be revitalized under the new ownership.
