Cummins Receives 2014 Fuel-Efficiency Certification from EPA

Cummins Inc. has received the first Environmental Protection Agency certification for meeting 2014 fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas rules, the engine maker said Monday.

The company received the certification for its ISX15 heavy-duty truck engine that will achieve up to 2% better fuel economy than current models, Cummins said.

The new EPA regulations require near-zero emission levels of oxides of nitrogen and particulate and will be required for all heavy-duty diesel and natural gas engines beginning in 2014.

The ISX15 greenhouse gas certification is the first engine certificate issued by the EPA, Cummins said.
