Cummins, Navistar Extend Agreement Through 2013

Heavy-Duty Engines will Use EGR Technology

Cummins Inc. and Navistar International Corp. said Monday they have extended their engine supply agreement for Class 8 on-highway diesel engines through 2013.

The agreement is for the ongoing supply of Cummins ISL, ISM and ISX engines for use in Navistar’s International brand heavy-duty trucks, the companies said in a statement.

As part of the long-term agreement, beginning in 2010, Cummins will be Navistar’s exclusive supplier for 15- and 16-liter Cummins ISX big bore diesel engines for International trucks in North America.

Cummins 2010 engines will incorporate next-generation cooled exhaust-gas recirculation technology, with diesel particulate filters.

The technology “does not add complexity to the vehicle, yet power, torque, fuel economy and maintenance intervals will remain the same as today,” it said in a statement, adding that the engines will be fully certified and compliant to the near-zero Environmental Protection Agency 2010 emissions standards.
