Cummins’ Charlton to Retire, Rumsey Takes New Post

Cummins Inc. said Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Steve Charlton is retiring on July 1 and is being succeeded by Jennifer Rumsey as vice president of engineering in the company’s engine unit.

“In his more than 20 years with the company, Steve has provided invaluable technical expertise and leadership,” said Rich Freeland, president of Cummins’ engine business unit and vice president of the parent company.

Charlton, who led the engine maker’s transition to meet 2007 EPA emissions standards, has held the top technical post since 2010. Before joining Cummins, he taught engineering in the United Kingdom and worked in that field there.

Rumsey had been vice president for the heavy-, medium- and light-duty engine business.

A statement from Cummins, which is based in Columbus, Indiana, said Rumsey “will focus on new opportunities for growth, including the launch of new platforms, continued development of existing platforms and improving product quality.”
