CSX Reports Higher Second-Quarter Profit

CSX Corp.’s second-quarter earnings rose to $535 million, or 52 cents a share, from $512 million, or 49 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose slightly to $3.1 billion, the Eastern freight railroad said.

CSX said its performance “was supported by overall revenue growth, service and efficiency results” and tax and real estate items.

Intermodal volume growth offset declines in coal, with intermodal loads up 2% and revenue up 4%.
