CSX President Conway Resigns

CSX Corp. announced Tuesday that its president, Ronald J. Conway, has resigned to pursue other interests. Chairman John W. Snow will take over the president's duties.

The company also announced a reorganization of its senior management. Executive Vice President Paul R. Goodwin has been named vice chairman and will be in charge of all financial aspects of the railroad.

P. Michael Giftos, who was formerly senior vice president of CSX Transportation, has been named executive vice president and chief comercial officer, while CSX Transportation Executive Vice President Michael J. Ward will now be responsible for operations and rail network performance.

rganization on the overriding goal of enhancing shareholder value by stepping up the pace of operations, making this the safest railroad possible and bringing customers the level of rail service they want and need."

The Richmond, Va., based railroad has been plagued by service problems in recent months stemming from its partial buyout of Conrail. The railroad has also taken hits from the federal government and labor unions over inadequate track maintenance.
