CRST International Inc. said it has acquired BESL Transfer Co., a Cincinnati-based flatbed carrier.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based CRST said the purchase will complement CRST Malone, a longhaul flatbed carrier the company bought in 1984. The flatbed carriers serve similar customer bases.

“The acquisition of BESL Transfer Co. further complements our flatbed transportation services, by offering premiere, short haul dedicated services,” CRST CEO Dave Rusch said in a Dec. 31 statement.

“The acquisition of BESL will allow CRST to expand its flatbed operations nationwide footprint through their shorthaul, regional services and expanded agent base,” said John Gallardo, president of the CRST’s asset light group, which includes flatbed.

CRST did not disclose terms of the deal.

CRST International ranks No. 20 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
