National carriers C.R. England and Celadon Group Inc. announced new pay packages for their drivers.

Refrigerated carrier C.R. England announced a pay increase for company teams in its national and Western regional divisions.

The size of the increase is based on factors including driver tenure and length of haul but on average is a 26% hike to teams with more than six months’ experience.

The Salt Lake City-based carrier previously announced pay increases and bonuses for its company and independent-contractor driver trainers and solo company drivers in its Western regional fleet.

The raises were effective March 19. C.R. England has about 3,400 company-owned tractors plus 1,000 lease-to-own and owner-operator trucks.

Celadon announced it was introducing two new pay packages for company solo drivers.  These packages are available to most drivers in addition to its existing standard pay package.

One, the vacation pay package, offers an accelerated schedule for accruing time off, in which drivers can earn an extra week of vacation after driving as few as 30,000 miles.

The mileage band package offers a premium mileage rate when a route fewer than 600 miles is driven, although that is not available for Celadon’s local and dedicated drivers.

“We understand the importance of retaining drivers in our fleet,” said Dave Chesterman, director of recruiting. “By giving our drivers a choice of three pay options, we feel that we can help meet their financial needs and make their career transition to Celadon easier.”

Celadon has about 1,900 company-owned tractors and about 1,800 lease-to-own and independent operator units.

C.R. England ranks No. 20 and Celadon is No. 44 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
