Continental, a technology company and tire manufacturer, has opened its employee training center in Clinton, Miss. The facility is equipped with classrooms, computer labs and technical equipment, and is part of Continental’s $1.45 billion investment to develop a truck tire plant in Mississippi.

Continental also has partnered with Hinds Community College to drive job growth and retention, according to a November press release. The employee training center is the first completed structure in Continental’s growth strategy in Mississippi, which entails some 2,500 jobs created by 2028. By the time the tire plant begins production in 2020, the company will hire about 400 employees, the release stated.

“This is where our growth begins,” Project Manager Michael Egner said. “The training center will support the recruitment and professional development that will drive the success of our employees in Clinton.”

The company was founded in 1871. In 2017, Continental generated $44 billion in sales, with more than 243,000 employees in 60 countries. The tire division generated $11.3 billion in sales and has about 54,000 employees.
