Consumer Sentiment Rises in May

U.S. consumer confidence rose in May from an eight-month low the previous month, according to the University of Michigan’s monthly consumer sentiment index released Friday.

The final index for the month rose to 88.3 from 87.1 in April, but slipped from a preliminary reading of 88.7 two weeks ago.

The level was higher than economists’ forecasts of an 88 reading, Bloomberg reported.
