Consumer Confidence Index Rises

U.S. consumer confidence rose slightly this month, but still remains near a 28-year low, according to the Reuters/University of Michigan’s preliminary monthly consumer sentiment index released Friday.

The preliminary index for March increased to 56.5, from a 56.3 reading in February, the survey said. It reached a 28-year low, 55.3, in November 2008.

Economists had expected the reading to fall to a 55 reading. Bloomberg reported.
