Consumer Confidence Index Plunges to 16-Year Low

U.S. consumer confidence fell this month, reaching a 16-year low, according to the Reuters/University of Michigan monthly consumer sentiment index, released Friday.

The preliminary index for the month plunged to 69.6, from 78.4 in January.

That was well below economists’ forecasts of a 76 reading, Bloomberg reported.
