Consumer Confidence Hits Six-Month High

Consumer confidence rose this month to a six-month high, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index released Thursday.

The final index for December rose a reading of 69.9, from a previously reported preliminary figure of 67.7. The index registered a 64.1 reading in November.

The reading topped economists’ forecasts of a 68 reading, Bloomberg reported.

The index averaged a reading of 89 in the five years leading up to the recession at the end of 2007.
