Construction Spending Declines 0.1% in April

onstruction spending declined 0.1% in April, the first decline in almost a year, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

pending fell to a $1.2 trillion annual rate following a 0.9% gain in March, Commerce said.



The dip followed eight straight monthly increases and was below economists’ forecasts of no change from March, Bloomberg reported.

Including public projects, non-residential construction rose 1.1%. Spending on public construction fell 0.2%.

Construction spending can boost demand for trucking services because spending increases the number of shipments of goods and building materials.
