ale Duncan, a Con-way Freight driver based in Chula Vista, Calif., was named Grand Champion of the National Truck Driving Championships, American Trucking Associations said Monday in a statement.

Duncan, who also won first place in the individual tank truck competition, has been with Con-way Freight for 16 years and has logged more than 1 million accident-free miles.

NTDC, held last Tuesday through Saturday in New Orleans, tested the driving skills and transportation safety knowledge of more than 380 truck drivers.

Drivers earn the right to compete in the event, which is sponsored by ATA, by placing first in their division at state-level driving competitions.

Less-than-truckload carrier Con-way Freight is part of Con-way Inc., which is ranked No. 6 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
