Chicago Manufacturing Activity Rises

Manufacturing activity in the Chicago area rose in June, the Institute for Supply Management-Chicago said Thursday.

The group’s business barometer jumped to 61.1 this month, from 56.6 in May. Readings over 50 signal expansion.

Economists had forecast the gauge would fall to 54, Bloomberg reported.

Chicago is a major center of U.S. manufacturing, which is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
