Cass Information Systems Inc. is partnering with the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business to support two Cass transportation indexes, according to a Dec. 2 news release from Cass and UTK.

The Cass Truckload Linehaul Index and the Cass Intermodal Price Index, followed by more than 8,000 subscribers, follow changes in American freight-shipping costs. Since 2011, the indexes have been widely used by shippers, carriers and others interested in freight market dynamics, according to Cass and the College of Business’ Global Supply Chain Institute.

In collaboration with Cass, the Global Supply Chain Institute has created an enhanced calculation logic and methodology for both indexes, according to the news release.

Alex Rodrigues, a professor at the UTK Department of Supply Chain Management, will serve as the principal technical expert responsible for the enhanced architecture of both indexes.

The data for these indexes, as well as the Cass Freight Index, are generated by Cass through its freight invoice payment activity for 350 large shippers.

Cass, which provides information and payment management solutions, says it disburses more than $60 billion annually on behalf of clients.

The Global Supply Chain Institute is a supply chain research and talent development organization. More than 1,200 students study the subject at the school, according to university officials. — Transport Topics
