CARB Issues Enforcement Warning

The California Air Resources Board issued a warning that enforcement of new emissions regulations will go into effect Jan. 1 for heavy-duty trucks with model year 2000 to 2004 engines.

The new regulations require the use of soot filters or upgrades to newer vehicles, CARB said in letter to heavy-duty truck owners and operators and include out-of-state vehicles operating in California.

Inspectors will be checking for compliance at weigh stations, fleet facilities, truck stops and random roadside locations as well as performing electronic fleet audits, CARB said.

Penalties start at $1,000 per violation per month and non compliance can result in vehicles being impounded.
