Canadian Pacific’s 3Q Profit Decreases

Canadian freight railroad Canadian Pacific’s third-quarter net income fell 6% to C$197.3 million, or C$1.17 per share, from C$209.3 million, or C$1.24, a year earlier.

The 2009 earnings included "other specified items" totaling C$69.4 million after tax, largely due to a tax gain from real estate sales. Excluding these items, earnings per share increased 27% to C$1.21, CP said.

Revenue rose 15% to C$1.29 billion, the rail line said in a statement.

Intermodal revenue rose to C$360.2 million from C$303.4 million, CP said.
