Canadian National’s Third-Quarter Income Rises 21%

Canadian National Railway Co. said its third-quarter net income rose 21% to C$556 million, or C$1.19 per share, from C$461 million or 97 cents per share, a year earlier.

Revenue increased 15% to C$2.12 billion, the Montreal-based railroad said late Tuesday. Intermodal revenue rose 19% to C$427 million.

Revenue from coal shipments grew by 28%, metals and minerals revenue rose by 24, and automotive revenue gained 22%, CN said.

The railroad kept the financial guidance it issued in the previous quarter, saying it expects yearly earnings for 2010 earnings to jump 25% over last year to $3.90 per share.
