Canadian Firms Contrans, Clarke Report 1Q Profits

anadian firms Contrans Income Fund and Clarke Inc. both reported first-quarter profits this week.

Contrans reported Thursday that its first quarter performance was a record, earning C$9.7 million or 34 cents per unit, up from C$6 million or 21 cents a year ago.

Contrans, ranked No. ranked No. 73 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, reported revenue of C$107.5 million, up from C$91.7 million a year ago.



In January, Contrans acquired General Freight Carriers, a flatbed carrier based in New Brunswick, Canada. (Click here for previous coverage.)

Clarke Inc. said late Tuesday it earned C$5.7 million or 36 cents a share, up from C$2 million or 15 cents a year earlier.

Clarke’s revenue dropped to C$40.1 million, from C$46.1 million a year ago.
