Brown Trucking to Use SkyBitz

SkyBitz said in a statement that improved utilization and lowered costs of ownership were factors in the decision to install the technology to be used on Brown’s 3,700 trailers.

“One of the biggest challenges we faced with other trailer tracking solutions in the past was the battery life of the device itself,” said Brian Kinsey, president of Brown Trucking. “It became too cumbersome to tether each trailer to a truck for power each time we wanted to use a trailer, and it was harder to find trailers that sit for a long time without a power source.”

The Lithonia, Ga.-based company, which also includes West Brother’s Transportation, now can operate trailers for multiple years without having those units tethered to a tractor for power, Kinsey said.

“This saves us time and helps us run better operations, which in turn equates to providing better service to our customers.”

The GLS tags are used with the technology company’s InSight, a Web-based system that allows users to obtain real-time operational information for all of its trailers, SkyBitz said.

Brown operates out of 12 terminals, using a fleet of 835 trucks to serve a nine-state area in the southern United States.
