Brokers Saw Decreased Profits in 2008, Survey Shows

Freight brokers and logistics providers saw profit margins decrease 5% in 2008 compared to the previous year due to volatile market conditions, a survey by transportation technology company TransCore shows.

The Broker Benchmark Survey’s 500 respondents averaged 15.8% profits in 2008, down from 16.6% the year before, TransCore said in a release.

To cope with the business environment, 31% of brokers cut costs, 30% cut jobs and 13% did both.
