Bridgestone Americas Inc. launched a new Firestone FT492 trailer tire.

In a news release Sept. 4, Bridgestone officials said the tire is fuel-efficient, SmartWay-verified and comes in five sizes.

Company officials said the Firestone FT492 tire is compliant with the California Air Resources Board and features a fuel-efficient tread design to promote low-rolling resistance.

The trailer tire is engineered with sidewall protection and a wide-tread footprint, Bridgestone officials said.

The Firestone FT492 tire is designed with the latest technological advancements to achieve long-lasting tread wear, according to Ben Johnson, a director of marketing in the truck and bus radial segment for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.

The tire, engineered for single- and tandem-axle trailer applications, is designed to be paired with a Bandag retread to optimize the tire’s performance potential by extending casing life and lowering the total cost of tire ownership, Bridgestone officials said.

Company officials said the Firestone FT492 tire for long- and-regional-haul service is available in the U.S. and Canada in the 295/75R22.5 size.

Sizes 11R22.5, 11R22.4, 285/75R24.5 and 255/70R22.5 will be available in November. — Transport Topics
